Drafting a network for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system involved choosing a set of five new and well distributed cross city corridors with exclusive road use. At pinch points, road use could be shared with priority for BRT (a concept similar to the Luas routes). While running through the city, the current Dublin Bus corridors on O’Connell Street, D’Olier Street and Westmoreland Street were avoided to prevent the loss of existing public transport infrastructure.
A draft network using Bus Rapid Transit: Great network coverage and plenty of connections.
Using side streets and new underpasses and tunnels also would reduced the impact on main traffic arteries.
